Each visit earns the rate for its number (10 for visits 1 to 10, 11 for visits 11 to 30, 12 from visit 31), or your current tier's rate if that is higher. Status you unlock also lasts through next year.

The rules
How SONIC Rewards Works, Rule by Rule
Each rule is followed by the wording it comes from in Sonic's own documents. Checked November 6, 2026.
Points per dollar
Members earn 10 points for every $1 spent on Qualifying Purchases. The amount is before tax, fees, tips and discounts.
"ten (10) Points for every one U.S. dollar ($1.00) spent on Qualifying Purchases, exclusive of tax, fees, gratuities or discounts."
Purchases must be made in the SONIC app or on the SONIC website while signed in. Third-party delivery apps may not qualify, and delivery fees earn nothing.
Qualifying Purchases are made "through the SONIC App or on the SONIC Website"; "Orders made through third-party delivery platforms ... may not qualify"; no Points for "delivery fees, surcharges, sales, use or other transactional taxes."
A visit is one qualifying order that costs money. A free reward order does not count. Orders need to be at least 60 minutes apart.
"zero-dollar ($0.00) transactions using rewards or redemptions will not count towards a Visit"; Sonic's FAQ: "A qualifying visit must be at least 60 minutes from a previous visit and include the purchase of a points eligible item."
After 10 visits you unlock Star. Star earns 11 points per $1 starting with the 11th visit. It does not add points to your first 10 visits.
"Once a Member has made ten (10) Visits, they will unlock Star Tier status. Star Tier Members (11th+ Visit) receive eleven (11) Points for each U.S. dollar ($1.00) spent on Qualifying Purchases."
After 30 visits you unlock Legend. Legend earns 12 points per $1 starting with the 31st visit and lets you pick a VIP benefit.
"After thirty (30) Visits Members unlock Legend Tier status. Legend Tier Members (31st+ Visit) receive twelve (12) Points for each U.S. dollar ($1.00) spent on Qualifying Purchases." Members "only earn Points in one Tier at a time."
A tier you unlock stays for the rest of that calendar year and all of the next calendar year. After that, Legend needs 30 visits in each later calendar year. Sonic's FAQ adds that the visit tracker resets to 0 each year.
"Once unlocked, a Member's Tier status remains unlocked for the remainder of the then-current calendar year as well as the immediately following calendar year." Sonic's FAQ: "Your visit tracker resets to 0 at the start of each year, whether or not you have Star Status."
You need at least 200 points to start converting. How many points each item costs is shown in the app's Rewards Catalog and can change. Points are taken off at once, and an unused menu reward expires after 60 days without being re-credited.
Sonic's FAQ: "Once you have collected at least 200 points, you can convert points into FREE food and drink rewards." Terms: "The number of Points required for a particular Reward will be outlined in the Reward Catalog ... and may be changed from time to time"; menu Rewards "will be available to use for sixty (60) days"; expired Rewards are not "replaced or re-credited."
Sonic's FAQ says points are valid for 1 year from the day you earn them. The terms say Sonic can change the expiration date at any time.
Sonic's FAQ: "points are valid for 1 year from the time you earn them." Terms: Sonic may "change the expiration date or redemption value of Visits, Rewards, Offers, and/or Points."

Claim: “Every app user gets half-price drinks and slushes all day.”
Not as a standing benefit for everyone.
Sonic's launch release lists half-price drinks and slushes as one of the three Legend VIP benefits (30 visits a year), and Sonic's Rewards FAQ describes the half-price drinks reward as now exclusive to Legend members. Check what your app offers.
Claim: “Reach 10 visits and all of your visits earn 11 points per dollar.”
No. The higher rate starts with the next visit.
Sonic's terms say Star members earn 11 points from the 11th visit, and Legend members earn 12 from the 31st. Earlier visits keep the rate they earned.
Claim: “Sonic Rewards launched in May 2026.”
Sonic's release is dated April 6, 2026.
The Inspire Brands announcement and Sonic's FAQ both give April 6, 2026. Only orders placed after launch earn points.
Claim: “Legend members choose from three VIP benefits.”
Three are named in the release; the terms say up to five.
The Inspire Brands release names three. The terms say Legend members choose one of "up to five (5) additional rewards". Your app shows the list you actually get, and the pick is locked for the rest of the year.
Claim: “A free item costs a fixed number of points.”
Sonic does not publish one list.
Point costs are in the in-app catalog and can change. This calculator asks you to type the cost shown in your app.

How many points do you earn per dollar with SONIC Rewards?
Members earn 10 points per $1 on qualifying purchases. Star members earn 11 points per $1 starting with their 11th visit, and Legend members earn 12 points per $1 starting with their 31st visit. The amount counts before tax, fees, tips and discounts, and you must order in the SONIC app or on the SONIC website while signed in. Sonic does not say how it rounds points, so treat our results as estimates.
What counts as a visit for Star and Legend status?
A visit is one qualifying order that costs money; a free reward order does not count. Orders must be at least 60 minutes apart, and only the first 5 purchases in a day and the first 15 in any rolling 7 days count. Star needs 10 visits and Legend needs 30 visits in a calendar year.
If I reach 10 visits, do my earlier orders get 11 points per dollar?
No. Sonic's terms say Star members earn 11 points starting with the 11th visit, and Legend members earn 12 points starting with the 31st visit. Visits before that keep the rate they earned.
How long do Star and Legend status last?
Per Sonic's terms, a tier you unlock stays for the rest of that calendar year and all of the next calendar year. After that, Legend status continues only if you make 30 visits in each later calendar year. Sonic's FAQ also says your visit tracker resets to 0 at the start of each year. The tier shown in your SONIC app is the final word.
How many points do I need for a free item at Sonic?
Sonic says you need at least 200 points before you can convert points into a reward. The cost of each item is listed in the Rewards Catalog in the SONIC app and can change, and Sonic does not publish one national list. We do not list point costs we cannot verify. Type the cost from your app into the goal helper above to see how many visits it takes.
Do SONIC Rewards points expire?
Sonic's Rewards FAQ says points are valid for 1 year from the time you earn them. Once you turn points into a menu reward, you have 60 days to use it, and an expired reward is not replaced or re-credited. Sonic's terms also say it can change expiration dates at any time.
Do delivery orders earn SONIC Rewards points?
Orders through third-party delivery apps may not qualify, and Sonic gives no points for delivery fees, surcharges or taxes. To earn points, order in the SONIC app or on the SONIC website while signed in. Mobile ordering is available only at select locations.
What are the Legend VIP benefits?
Sonic's launch release lists three: half-price drinks and slushes, a free snack or side with any purchase (one redemption per week), or $2 off any purchase of $10 or more. Sonic's terms say Legend members pick one from up to five additional rewards, so the list in your app is the one that applies to you. The choice is locked for the rest of the year.
Does everyone with the SONIC app get half-price drinks and slushes?
Not as a standing benefit for every member. Sonic's launch release names half-price drinks and slushes as one of the Legend VIP benefits, and Sonic's Rewards FAQ describes that reward as now exclusive to Legend members. Check the offers your app shows before you order. Our Happy Hour page covers what we could and could not confirm.
When did SONIC Rewards start?
SONIC Rewards launched nationwide in the SONIC app on April 6, 2026, according to Inspire Brands. Sonic's FAQ says only orders placed after the launch earn points.
Is this calculator official, and how current is it?
No. It is an independent estimate tool and is not affiliated with Sonic or Inspire Brands. We last compared the rules with Sonic's terms, Rewards FAQ and launch release on November 6, 2026. Sonic can change the program at any time, so confirm points, tiers and rewards in the SONIC app.

Pricing & Nutrition Information Notice🇺🇸 About our prices
Sonic publishes no menu prices. Prices on Sonic Menu are not Sonic's: where we could, we show a typical pickup price measured by Drive Thru Index across a sample of Sonic restaurant pages (checked November 6, 2026); for a few items we could not measure, a rough estimate of our own. They are not live prices from any single restaurant. Exact menu prices, combo meal promotions, and product availability vary by independent franchise location, drive-in stall vs. drive-thru, and delivery service app markups (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub).
